Vision 8 – Performance Management 2025
What will change for our customers and all those who would like to become customers in the future?
Many of our customers are planning to upgrade an existing Dynamics NAV or Business Central solution to a new release such as Business Central 2024 Release Wave 1 (version 24) or higher in 2025. Some customers are moving to the Business Central Cloud version, and others still prefer the on-premise versions. Some customers have just introduced a newer version of their BC industry solutions on an older release (e.g. BC 14) and plan to continue using it for a few more years.
For us as the DynamicsProject team, these changes in the Business Central policy lead to a realignment of our Vision 8 performance management strategy for SQL Server and Business Central. In our analysis tools V8 Search XE, we have so far offered the possibility to ensure the entire NAV / Business Central version range from NAV 2013 to Business Central 2024 Release Wave 1 (Version 24) for problems such as deadlocks and table locks. Regardless of whether the source code of the customer solutions used was written in Business Central C/AL or AL source code. V8 Search XE was able to analyze and interpret both types of programming languages.
Our resources are simply not sufficient to handle all versions of Microsoft Business Central / NAV using the V8 Search XE analysis tool. For this reason, we have decided to discontinue V8 Search XE in its current form.
End of Life – V8 Search XE
Please note that “End of Life & End of Support” for V8 Search XE in 2025.
Detailed information can be found under the following link: Product Lifecycle Policy Software
Questions about extended support can be found under the following link: FAQ
Every piece of software has a life cycle. This begins with the software release and ends with the End of Life (EOL), when the software is no longer supported.
The EoS/EoL of V8 Search XE “On-premises” version is planned for December 31, 2025. We will end the distribution of V8 Search XE “On-premises” software on January 01, 2025 by removing the option for new installations from all Dynamicsproject.com websites/portals. Customers can continue to use the V8 Search XE “On-premises” version until the EOL date or expiration of the valid license. Any use after this date is no longer possible, as the product is no longer available in this form. In the future, V8 Search XE will only be made available as part of the V8 Care - Complete Service Package (service project). If V8 Care is not an option for you, we recommend that you look for an alternative software product in good time.
A successor product to V8 Search XE is planned for the second quarter of 2025. The new software will be released under the name “V8 Five”. V8 Five is the fifth generation of our performance analysis software for Business Central and SQL Server.
V8 Five
The switch from the Windows client to the Dynamics 365 Business Central modern clients brings with it a number of innovations. Not only have new functions been added, and existing ones improved, but the role-tailored client (also Windows client) has also been completely replaced by the new modern clients.
In line with the discontinuation of the Windows client (Business Central Spring 2019 - version 14), the second release wave of Business Central 2019 marks a milestone as the first version without the legacy development environment (also known as C/SIDE). The modern developer experience based on Visual Studio Code and the new AL language requires different workflows in the area of performance optimization (e.g. table locks or deadlocks) than was previously possible with the C/AL code. For this reason, V8 Five will not cover all versions of Business Central On-premises like its predecessor V8 Search XE.
We continue to support all customers on the subject of performance management who have not yet carried out / planned the changeover / upgrade to e.g. Business Central 2024 Release Wave 1 (Version 24).
The basic module of V8 Five is available in two different extension modules:
The “CAL” module continues to support all solutions based on C/AL code. However, only version 14 (Business Central Spring 2019), the latest release, is supported with Roletailored Client. If you are using a Business Central / NAV version 13 or earlier, you have the option of using a customized configuration (custom module) from V8 Five. However, this module is associated with considerably higher costs, as the software is specially adapted to the customer's version.
The “AL” module supports Business Central from 2023 Release Wave 1 (Version 22) and later release waves. In the AL module, the extended Business Central telemetry data with the XEvents architecture (Extended Events) of SQL Server will in future provide even more detailed information on any performance problems that have their cause in the AL code. The Telemetry AL module simplifies the monitoring of deadlocks, table locks and queries with a long duration. Many new workflows have been developed in V8 Five to simplify analysis and are presented graphically for better understanding.
Details on the new product V8 Five new modules / workflows, licensing and innovations will be described in detail in various blob articles over the next few weeks.
We will be happy to answer any further questions on this topic personally.
